hey. im also in high school and have participated w. my golf team.
you could definitely make freshman team or jv i think. and possiby varsity if you practice more and get out on the field more.

    YES, go for it.!!!

You will not only have more concentration, you will
    definitely improve.

I have had students that turned in rounds of 100 plus.

You probably are good enough, BUT, it really depends on the quality of the other kids who go out for the team. When I played high school golf we had to try out and only the top 12 players made the team. The top 6 were Varsity and the others were JV. Each week we played to try improve our standing on the team. It was competitive and really fun. Good luck, hope you make the team. Attitude and concentration under pressure are attributes that will make you successful.

Dear Josh, At 14 or 15 years of age you can certainly make the golf team is you are shooting in the eighties. I can also tell you after training and teaching hundreds if not thousands of golfers that you have not developed the ingrained bad habits many mature players have. If you simply recounted your rounds and when and where you took the most strokes just raw practice time would cut 10 shots off your snowmen scores. Keep your puuter out of the bag and while watching TV or sitting around the house have imaginary putts to win the U.S. Open or the Masters or beating one of your favorite players. Don’t rush out to take lessons. Go to the library and begin reading golf instruction books seeking to find the common ground in all good golf books. “Golf My Way” by Jack Nicklaus was Greg Norman’s Golf Bible. It is very important that when you decide to take lessons or swing coaching you understand the language of golf. This will make your time with the instructor more valuable and you will learn 4 to 5 times as much as someone who does not know the language of golf. I your instructor notices you are “crossing the line” at the top of your backswing do you want to pay out your money for definitions or immediately work on the swing flaw he picked up on. In addition, Josh you need to self heal at times and sometimes on the course during qualifying or playing in a match. You can also self learn about golf equipment and the dynamics and physics of golf equipment.

This path will give you confidence and self reliance. You seek to make the golf team but at the end of the day golf is one of the most solitary games. It’s you against the course. Dedicate yourself to making a balance between your studies, priority one, and playing better golf not forgetting to make both fun. The recheable goal of making the team requires a workload of several elements.

    1. Be sure to find a qualified instructor to stretch and develop the proper golf muscles. The legs are the most neglected aspect of physical training for golfers. You will know what I speaking of the first time you play 36 holes carrying your bag in wet conditions.
    2. Your golf set configuaration needs to fit you not you changing proper posture for clubs which are too short or too long. If it takes doinf some odd jobs for Mom and Dad or a neighbor do them so you can buy a great putter. That may be the one and only club you will use and years from now cherish and still use. If on a budget get a fitted driver which is used. Don’t cut the budget here. Next are your wedges and two fairway clubs and lastly the irons.
    3. Get a shag bag with 100 balls and find a field or vacant property where you can hit shots of 75 yards or less. 100 yards is the ideal.
    4. Get more tough mentally. Learn how to forget. Hit a poor shot. Forget it in a New York second. When playing with friends ALWAYS gamble or have something at stake. A car wash, 25 cents so the outcome means something.
    5. Practice, practice get your school work done 100% then go practice some more. Get a video cam and tape your swing and with some of the knowledge you have gained from reading and watching indtructors compare your swing.
    6. Have fun and when you think the time’s right take a nice girl to practice with. Try teaching her to play.

Josh, you can drop 10 shots so quickly it’s going to impress you as well as your school mates and golf coaches. Your life will be enhanced by becoming a good player and you can enjoy the game for the next 70 years. Good Luck son, you’ll do great, will be great and you did all by yourself.

Depends on the team. At my school you would be a starter, but at my friends school you wouldn’t make JV. So just hope your team isnt amazing

Well you should be good enough depending on how good your school is, for now just keep practicing and play competitively and have fun.
